Ralph Albrecht, Partner ATFirm PLLC. ATFirm PLLC Partner Ralph Albrecht helped mentor
the Falls Church High School (FCHS) Robotics Club's FIRST Robotics
Competition (FRC) Team 6504 through its award-winning rookie season. The
team was the recipient of two Rookie Inspiration Awards at Regional FRC
Tournaments. Albrecht, along with fellow volunteer coach Sokhom Kith
of the Naval Research Labs (NRL) have been mentoring the FCHS
Robotics Club the past three years at FCHS in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC),
as well as in VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) class robotics competitions.
A former FIRST Lego League mentor and volunteer coach at Fairhill
Elementary School, Albrecht has found rewarding the increasing complexity
of guiding the youth members, as they tackle ever more demanding STEM
challenges. Albrecht, a former avionics systems development and
submarine command control system, electrical engineer at IBM, and present
intellectual property law partner, finds it satisfying staying up to date
on the latest technologies, to help guide the students he leads. "We
guide the kids in programming in Java and RobotC, and mobile applications
in Android Studio and website development in HTML5, PHP, and MySQL, Vision
Processing and Arduino development, and other robotics and software
development platforms"says Albrecht. "I love working with the kids,
teaching them to solder, design and manufacture using 3D Printing, and in
building these sophisticated electro-mechanical multi-subsystem
robots. We helped launch the robotics club at FCHS with computer
science teachers Mr. Dan Tra, and Mr. John Bertha, and have continued to
have the club grow and flourish with the help of tech shop teach Mr.
Jim Steele, and the support of Principal Dr. Ben Nowak." The school
has appreciated the support from ATFirm PLLC over the years.
The FCHS Robotics Club's rookie FRC 2017 season

The Intellectual Property (IP) Lawfirm formerly
known as Albrecht Tousi & Farnum PLLC has rebranded itself ATFirm PLLC
(http://www.atfirm.com). ATFirm PLLC continues to reside at 1701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20006. The firm's Managing Partner, Ralph Albrecht, a former AmLaw 100 partner says the firm "continues to include several partners, each of whom has decades of experience in protecting IP, with a particular emphasis on providing patent related legal services to its domestic high tech clientele." Albrecht
Tousi & Farnum PLLC announced the formation March 1, 2010, of a new
intellectual property (IP) boutique based in Washington, DC
(http://www.atfirm.com). Ralph P. Albrecht, Cameron H. Tousi, and David M.
Farnum, formerly of Venable LLP, are the founding members of the firm,
which will focus on the enforcement and procurement of IP rights.
Having represented leading multinationals as well as startups, the founding partners and counsel are experienced in all avenues of technology protection and enforcement, from licensing and litigation, to technology transactions, to building sophisticated domestic patent prosecution and outbound foreign filing programs. Mr. Albrecht is an American Bar Foundation Fellow and Immediate Past President of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC), and former Chair of the BADC’s Patent Trademark Copyright (PTC) Section, who served as co-chair of Venable's patent prosecution practice group from 2000-2004. Mr. Albrecht will continue his patent litigation, licensing and patent procurement practice at Albrecht Tousi & Farnum PLLC (http://www.atfirm.com). Prior to joining private practice of law in 1997, Mr. Albrecht was a leading technical consultant with IBM from 1989-1999. Mr. Tousi is a distinguished IP licensing and litigation attorney with an active intellectual practice for leading corporations. Mr. Tousi previously served as Director of Intellectual Property for the Telecommunications Business of Samsung Electronics, and has had a distinguished career with such firms as Booz Allen Hamilton and IBM. Mr. Tousi, along with Mr. Albrecht, had joined Venable in May of 2000 through merger with Lane, Aitken & McCann. Mr. Farnum has built a national reputation as an intellectual property litigator and licensing attorney through his years with Venable and Latham & Watkins. His practice focuses on patent trial, appellate and other intellectual property work in a variety of technologies ranging from electronics, telecommunications products and services, software, computer hardware and financial services. “As a past president of the Bar Association of DC, the nation’s third oldest bar association, I am proud we are founding our firm in the Nation’s capital city,” said Albrecht. As former co-chair of Venable’s patent prosecution group, focusing on its domestic patent practice, Albrecht oversaw a period of unprecedented growth in that firm’s patent practice, while building a world class patent foreign filing department in its Washington Office, before moving his practice more recently to its Northern Virginia office. “This boutique law firm platform will enable us to meet a growing need in the IP services marketplace at a time when businesses around the country and across the globe are seeking creative, cost effective solutions to increasingly difficult legal and financial challenges," Mr. Farnum said. Agreeing, Mr. Tousi underscored, "our combination of large firm and intellectual property boutique legal and industry experience will provide the firm the ability to provide cost effective, high quality legal services solutions to clients of all sizes.” "Founding our own IP firm to continue to grow our respective legal services businesses has been a life’s dream of each of the principals," Mr. Albrecht said. |
